Well it is a Friday night, I just got home from work and my brain is tired. But it has been too long since my last post (if I had an audience they would be getting restless), so here are some things I've been thinking about, in no particular order:

a) Timber framing, see the Timber Framers Guild for what I'm talking about. Basically the art of making building structures out of large timbers (not to be confused with the standard building technique 'stick framing') this is tree trunk sized timbers and hand made joints. I worked a couple of months as an apprentice timber framer in the North Carolina a few years ago and got a lot out of it, beats sitting in a veal crate sized cube all day staring at a CRT (which I do now).

b) Tivo alternatives, particularly for Canadians or other non-US, non-UK folks who don't get the option of a Tivo (not with the TV listings anyway, which is kind of the point). I just bought myself a Hauppauge PVR-250 TV card for my PC and am trying it out with SnapStream Beyond TV. I'm liking what it can do - pause live TV, record to disk, burn files to DVD...

c) Interesting things going on with music and video online, for example The Grey Video (get it before the lawyers do) is a cool spin-off of The Grey Album both of which feature the unlikely (and illegal) combination of Jay-Z and The Beatles.

I will try to expand on some/all/none of these things in the future, but at least I have them out there for now - hopefully they will help to avoid future cases of blank page syndrome. Feel free to leave a comment if you want to know my thoughts on any of these (or if you have no interest in my thoughts and wish I would just delete this damn blog).
